Scott and Allison Hamling Establish $86,000 Legacy Fund to Benefit AL Students and Rue Teachers

[Council Bluffs, IA January 7, 2025] Scott and Allison Hamling have announced the creation of a $86,000 charitable fund in honor of Scott’s parents, Inge and Duaine Hamling, leaving a lasting legacy to benefit students and educators in the Council Bluffs Community School District.

The fund, established through a generous $86,000 gift, from the Duaine and Inge Hamling Charitable Trust, will be divided equally to support two key initiatives:

  • A $43,000 Scholarship Fund to benefit Abraham Lincoln High School students, providing financial assistance for their continued education.

  • A $43,000 Classroom Grant Fund for teachers at Rue Elementary School, where Inga Hamling dedicated over 42 years of her career as a beloved and compassionate educator.

This charitable gift reflects the Hamling family's deep roots in the Council Bluffs community and their enduring commitment to education. "My parents’ lives were defined by their dedication to students, families, and this school district," said Scott Hamling. "My mother, Inge, loved teaching at Rue Elementary, and we couldn’t think of a better way to honor her and my father’s legacy than by supporting the teachers and students who represent the future."

The charitable account has been set up with the intention to benefit the Council Bluffs Schools Foundation, ensuring the long-term impact of these funds for generations to come. The Foundation will oversee both the scholarship awards and the classroom grants, empowering students to pursue their dreams and equipping teachers with resources to enhance learning opportunities.

“The generosity of Scott and Allison Hamling is a shining example of how families can transform the lives of students and teachers in our district,” said Bridgette Watson, Executive Director of the Council Bluffs Schools Foundation. “This gift not only honors Inge and Duaine Hamling’s legacy but also strengthens the future of education in our community.”

Pam Beall Hill, Development Director for the Foundation added, “Having had Inge Hamling as a teacher myself, it has been an incredibly meaningful experience to work with the Hamling family on this gift. Inge’s dedication and compassion were evident in everything she did, and I’m honored to help carry forward her legacy of making a difference in students' and teachers' lives.”

The Council Bluffs Schools Foundation is honored to steward this fund and is grateful for the Hamlings’ vision to enrich the lives of AL students and Rue teachers for years to come.
