Julie's Story

STARS Alumni Julie Adkins was a scholar from 2015-2019, during which time she completed the Nursing Program at Metro Community College. Julie says, “It is indescribable how the STARS program impacted my family and me. Yes the monetary aspect was a major contributor however it was those staff who were involved in pushing us to be accountable, motivated, and most of all being a sound board that provided feedback and guidance. I will be forever grateful for the experience and leadership STARS provided”.

Julie is now a Registered Nurse with All Care Health Center as well as the head nurse at their satellite homeless shelter clinic here in Council Bluffs.

“It is indescribable how STARS has impacted my family and me. With the scholarship I was able to pay over $30,000 towards tuituion.”
